Tonight’s workout is another is our series of aerobic intervals. We’ll call this one ‘Roll of the Dice’ – an oldie but goodie. Tonight’s intervals and rest periods will be determined by chance during the ride. I will use one die and the intervals and rest period will be determined by the number that shows up. One = 30 sec, 2 – 1 min, 3 = 1.5 min, 4 = 2 min, 5 = 2.5 min and 6 = 3 min. Obviously because of the random and unknown nature of these intervals and rest periods, you have to be careful not to overdo it during any interval because the subsequent rest period may be short. But that’s part of the fun, too. This simulates a race situation where you need to meter your effort trying always to keep something in reserve but there will be times you use it all.
We will do two 20 min sessions with a 10 min recovery period in between.
